Cast valve bodies — sand-cast or investment-cast — carry an inherent risk: microscopic porosity, shrinkage cavities, or slag inclusions trapped inside the metal as it cools. Most valves never notice. But a body holding a small gas molecule, extreme pressure, or a zero-fault-tolerance system will find every one of them.
“Casting builds the shape. Forging builds the density.” — We choose the process based on what your valve actually has to hold: water, or hydrogen at 70MPa.
Sand · Investment · Die Cast
Shape formed from molten metal cooling in a mould. Efficient for complex geometry and large or high-volume bodies — the right call whenever a small internal void isn’t a safety issue.
High-Temp Plastic Deformation
Shape formed by compressing solid metal under heat and pressure. Grain flows continuously through the part — no internal voids, higher strength, better fatigue life.
Across every industry we serve, these are the four conditions that push a valve body from “cast is fine” to “must be forged.”
Hydrogen’s molecule is small enough to migrate through a cast body’s microscopic pores (embrittlement risk). 70MPa refueling stations, on-vehicle tanks, and ultra-pure semiconductor gas lines require forged stainless or specialty-alloy bodies.

Deep-sea equipment valves, control valves on 10,000-ton hydraulic presses, and supercritical steam valves in thermal power plants. Cast bodies risk deformation or rupture under these loads.
Primary steam isolation valves in nuclear plants, fuel supply valves in rocket engines. Reliability requirement is 100% — a casting defect causing a micro-leak isn’t an acceptable risk.
Medical gas systems, biopharmaceutical processing, semiconductor UHP gas valves. Forged bore walls take an electrochemical mirror polish with no hidden pores to trap bacteria or particulate.
A gas cylinder valve body sits at the exact intersection of everything forging solves for: high internal pressure, zero acceptable leak rate, and — in breathing applications — a direct line to human life safety.

Before a mould or forging die is cut, high-pressure and safety-critical valve body designs go through finite-element stress analysis — checking wall thickness, bonnet loading, and stress concentration at every fillet and boss.

Depends on the medium and pressure. Hydrogen, breathing gas, or roughly 200 bar+ / zero-fault-tolerance service usually means forging. Lower-pressure water, HVAC, or high-volume commercial valves are more cost-effective cast — we’ll advise honestly during the RFQ review.
